who am i
When I am not working on my photographs, you will usually find me in the kitchen baking, watching a film or listening to music. These are all different art forms that I find the most inspiration from. I also like to work out to get myself in the right headspace and exploring new places / travelling for more inspiration.
Storytelling is an important part of my photographs. Not only is it therapeutic to me, but it is also fascinating to learn about people's stories. I am also very passionate about our environment and helping the problems we are facing on the planet. I am constantly learning new web technologies and other design-related topics. Moreover, I enjoy playing around with different photographic mediums like cyanotypes and photobooks.
ps: julienkh comes from a combination of my Engllish and Chinese name :)
I am skilled in many areas of photo development and post-production, these include:
Creative Project Planning
Adobe Creative Cloud (Lightroom, Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Adobe InDesign)
File Management / Digital Archiving
Controlling studio lighting
Gallery Installation / Art Handling
My photographic process always starts with research and a mood board, putting together ideas, styles, moods and concepts. Once I have an idea of what I want to achieve, I'll start exploring different areas and begin shooting to see what works and what does not. I believe trial and error is an important part of the photographic process.
There’s a lot of back and forth between the time period of each project. I enjoy collaborating with other artists and learning from them, I believe when we all work together, it brings the best out of the project. One of the things I love about photography is that it is unpredictable. We underestimate the power of the camera with the time and place we are in from time to time. Sometimes I am able to capture something unintentionally, which usually turns out better than what I wanted to.
